Are you using it for mowing? The original 4000 series had some front axle geometry issues when finish mowing that could cause turf to get torn up, but I'm not sure if the 4100 is affected or not. JD had a program to fix this problem for free on affected machines that were used for mowing but that program has ended.
Other than that I think you'd be looking for the same problems as on any other used tractor. Maintenance records, how it COLD starts and runs, does it smoke, what's it look like, does everything work, etc. One trick some sellers use is to warm the tractor up before the buyer comes to see it. Don't let this happen, you want to be sure it starts well cold. It may blow a little smoke for the first few seconds then should quit. Maybe a puff now and then when bumping the throttle. If anyone has ever used a starting fluid (ether) on it I'd run the other direction real fast. ....

Oh, you asked about price. You didn't say what transmission it has and what year it is and how many hours it has. You can go to machinerylink dot com, register (it's free) and go to the used tractor price guide in the tools and resources section there. Sometimes the prices there seem a little high, and the FEL or any other implements aren't included, but it will get you in the ballpark. ....
